BRISTOL SOUTH MUSIC WORKSHOP & CHOIR is an on-going, friendly group that has grown over 36 years.
VENUE:
Knowle DGE Learning Centre, Leinster Avenue, BS4 1NN
£££ fees.
£75 for 10 meetings. (£25) for DHSS claimants who provide evidence of current receipt of benefit).
£38 for those who attend the choir session only.
This fee includes the music, which will be lent to you.
You are welcome to attend for one evening session before you decide to pay and enrol.
However applying by the date of the deadline will facilitate ordering music & organising groups by standard.
SELF-HELP INSTRUMENTAL GROUPS: 7.30 to 8.30 P.M.
Grouped by standard if possible. Some guidance is given.
There is a wide range of standards, from beginners to intermediate and advanced.
Various instruments are played. Complete beginners usually start by learning to play the recorder.
On alternate meetings we meet as an orchestra for the last 20 minutes of this session.
Beginners are encouraged to join this popular session and play what they can.
CHOIR: 8.45 to 9.50 P.M
Some instruction is given in vocal exercises, ear training, & sight singing.
We sing a varied repertoire of music from different periods & styles.
Some music is learned by ear or sung from memory.
You are welcome to join just the choir, for the second half of each
evening only, but nearly everyone enjoys attending both sessions.
Learning an instrument will help you learn to read music, and you will get to know a small group of people in the instrumental group before the whole group comes together for the choir in the second half.
Singing also helps instrumentalists read music and play musically and expressively.
YES, YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH
We welcome people who have little experience of playing an instrument or who have never sung in a choir before.
Those who think they cannot sing in tune are also welcome.
The friendly and accepting atmosphere promoted by this approach is valued by members of all standards.
Intermediate & advanced players and singers are regular members.
Most people return to the group year after year.
THE CONCERT is held on a Friday at the end of each term. We perform for ourselves only - a very encouraging audience! No outsiders are invited. Everyone works hard for this special occasion.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE & practice between weekly sessions are important and only fair to others.
